Ingredients

For the Panini (per serving)
  • 2 slices Hearty Bread sourdough, whole wheat, or ciabatta
  • 1 tbsp Unsalted Butter softened (or mayonnaise)
  • 2 tbsp Honey Mustard or Apple Butter
  • 3 ounces Thinly Sliced Deli Turkey oven-roasted recommended
  • 2 ounces Sharp Cheddar Cheese thinly sliced
  • 4 slices Apple thinly sliced (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
  • 0.5 cup Fresh Arugula or spinach (optional)
  • Salt and Freshly Ground Black Pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Panini Press or Griddle
  • Heavy Skillet or Weight (if no press)

Method

  1. Prep and Spread: Preheat panini press. Butter one side of each bread slice (outside). Spread honey mustard/apple butter on the unbuttered side.
  2. Layer Fillings: On one slice of bread (mustard side up), layer: half cheese, apple, turkey, arugula (if using), and remaining cheese. Top with the other slice (butter side out).
  3. Grill: Place the sandwich on the press/griddle. Grill and press firmly for 3–5 minutes until bread is golden and the cheese is thick and gooey.
  4. Serve: Remove, slice in half, and serve immediately while the cheese is melted.

Notes

Use thinly sliced apples (about 1/8-inch thick) for best results. Place cheese directly on the bread to prevent sogginess. If using a skillet, weigh the sandwich down to mimic a press.
