Ingredients

The Cocktail
  • 2 oz Bourbon Whiskey high quality preferred
  • 1 oz Fresh Espresso slightly cooled
  • 0.5 oz Simple Syrup or maple syrup
  • 2 dashes Orange Bitters
Garnish
  • 1 strip Orange Peel wide twist
  • 3 whole Coffee Beans
  • 1 cup Ice plus large cube for serving

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Rocks Glass
  • Espresso Machine or Moka Pot
  • Jigger

Method

  1. Place a rocks glass in the freezer to chill for at least 10 minutes.
  2. Brew a fresh shot of espresso and let it cool for about a minute.
  3. Combine bourbon, espresso, simple syrup, and orange bitters in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  4. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds to chill and aerate the espresso (creating foam).
  5. Place a large ice cube (king cube) into the chilled rocks glass.
  6. Strain the cocktail mixture over the ice in the glass.
  7. Express the oils from the orange peel over the drink, rub the rim, twist, and place on top along with three coffee beans.

Notes

For extra foam, perform a 'dry shake' (shake ingredients without ice first) before adding ice and shaking again.
