Ingredients

Casserole Base
  • 1 lb breakfast sausage ground
  • 6 slices bacon cooked and crumbled
  • 10 large eggs
  • 2.5 cups whole milk or half-and-half
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 6 cups bread cubed (sourdough or french bread)
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped, for garnish

Equipment

  • 9x13 Baking Dish
  • Skillet
  • Whisk
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Cheese Grater

Method

  1. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Cut bread into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until browned. Drain fat. Cook bacon until crispy and crumble.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, mustard, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  4. Place half of the bread cubes in the baking dish. Top with half the sausage, bacon, and cheese.
  5. Repeat with remaining bread, meats, and cheese.
  6. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the casserole. Press down gently so bread soaks up liquid.
  7. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered for 45-55 minutes until golden and set.
  9. Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley.

Notes

For best results, use block cheese and grate it yourself.
