Ingredients

Chocolate Shell
  • 1/3 cup Chocolate Chips Semi-sweet or dark chocolate recommended
  • 1 tablespoon Coconut Oil Refined for neutral taste, unrefined for coconut flavor
Coffee Beverage
  • 1.5 cups Ice Cubes Enough to fill the cup
  • 3/4 cup Milk Dairy or plant-based (oat milk works great)
  • 1/2 cup Strong Brewed Coffee Or 2 shots of espresso, slightly cooled
  • 1 tablespoon Simple Syrup Optional, to taste

Equipment

  • Flexible Plastic Cup
  • Microwave-safe bowl

Method

  1. In a small microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and coconut oil.
  2. Microwave in 15-second intervals, stirring in between, until completely melted and smooth.
  3. Pour the warm chocolate mixture into a clean, dry, flexible plastic cup.
  4. Swirl and rotate the cup so the chocolate creates an even, thin coating along the inside walls.
  5. Place the coated cup in the freezer for 5 to 10 minutes until the chocolate shell is completely hard and matte.
  6. Remove the cup from the freezer and fill it with ice cubes.
  7. Pour in your milk and optional simple syrup, followed by the chilled espresso or strong coffee.
  8. Firmly squeeze the sides of the flexible plastic cup with your hands to shatter the chocolate shell.
  9. Stir the cracked chocolate shards into the coffee and enjoy immediately.

Notes

Make sure you use a flexible plastic cup; rigid glass or hard plastic will not squeeze and the chocolate will not crack.
