Ingredients

Donut Grilled Cheese
  • 2 glazed donuts standard size, sliced in half horizontally
  • 2-3 slices cheese e.g., American, cheddar, or Monterey Jack
  • 2-3 strips bacon cooked crispy
  • 1-2 tbsp maple syrup pure maple syrup recommended, for drizzling
  • 0.5 tbsp butter optional, for grilling
Optional Maple Drizzle
  • 0.25 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp butter unsalted
  • pinch cinnamon optional

Equipment

  • Skillet or griddle
  • Spatula

Method

  1. Cook bacon until perfectly crisp. Drain on paper towels and set aside.
  2. Carefully slice each glazed donut horizontally into two halves.
  3. Assemble the sandwich: layer cheese, crispy bacon, and a small drizzle of maple syrup (about 1/2 tsp) between the donut halves. Place a slice of cheese on top of the bacon before adding the second donut half.
  4. Optional: Spread a thin layer of butter on the outer glazed side of each donut half.
  5. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Place the donut sandwich in the skillet and grill for 2-4 minutes per side, until golden, caramelized, and cheese is completely melted and gooey. Press gently with a spatula.
  6. Optional Maple Drizzle: For extra sauce, combine 1/4 cup maple syrup and 1 tsp butter in a small bowl. Heat until butter melts and mixes with syrup, creating a thick, heavy, gooey viscous consistency. Add a pinch of cinnamon if desired.
  7. Remove from skillet, place on a serving plate, and immediately drizzle generously with warm maple syrup (either the optional drizzle or straight from the bottle). The gooey maple syrup should display a thick, heavy, viscous consistency. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

Experiment with different cheeses like Havarti or Gouda for unique flavor profiles. For an even richer experience, use candied bacon.
