Ingredients
  

Cookie Dough
  • 2.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 tsp ground cloves
  • 0.5 tsp ground ginger
  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar packed
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg large
  • 1 tbsp molasses
  • 1 tbsp orange zest freshly grated
Orange Glaze
  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 2-3 tbsp fresh orange juice
  • 1 tsp orange zest optional garnish

  • Hand mixer or stand mixer
  • Zester/Microplane
  • Wire rack

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger.
  3. In a small bowl, rub the granulated sugar with the 1 tablespoon of orange zest until fragrant.
  4. In a large bowl, cream the butter with the orange sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Beat in the egg and molasses until well combined.
  6. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Scoop dough into 1.5-tablespoon balls and place on prepared sheets. Flatten slightly with the bottom of a glass.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are set. Cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  9. Whisk powdered sugar and orange juice until smooth. Dip cooled cookies into glaze or drizzle over top.

Notes

Store in airtight container for up to 4 days.
