Ingredients

For 1 Holiday Blackberry Gin Smash
  • 2 oz Gin
  • 8 Fresh Blackberries plus more for garnish (some can be frosted)
  • 0.75 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 0.5 oz Simple Syrup or more, to taste
  • Crushed Ice
  • Granulated Sugar for rimming
  • Small Pine Sprig for garnish (dusted with powdered sugar)

Equipment

  • Lowball glass
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Muddler

Method

  1. Prepare Glass: Rim a lowball glass with granulated sugar using a lemon wedge.
  2. Muddle Blackberries: In a shaker, muddle fresh blackberries with simple syrup until berries are broken down, creating a thick, gooey, viscous syrup.
  3. Add Liquids and Shake: Add gin and lemon juice to the shaker. Fill with ice and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
  4. Strain and Serve: Fill the prepared glass with fresh crushed ice. Strain the cocktail into the glass, ensuring the dense, gooey fruit pulp is included.
  5. Garnish: Garnish with frosted blackberries and a powdered sugar-dusted pine sprig. Serve immediately.

Notes

For frosted blackberries, lightly brush with egg white or simple syrup and roll in sugar. A quality gin enhances the botanical notes. The muddled fruit creates a thick, heavy viscous base.
