Ingredients

The Sauce
  • 12 oz fresh cranberries 1 bag, rinsed
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 1 whole orange zested and juiced
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract optional
  • 1 pinch salt

  • Medium saucepan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Zester
  • Colander

Method

  1. Rinse cranberries and discard any shriveled ones.
  2. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and fresh orange juice. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
  3. Stir in the cinnamon stick, orange zest, and cranberries.
  4. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes until berries burst and sauce thickens.
  5. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and salt. Remove cinnamon stick.
  6. Transfer to a bowl and cool completely to allow sauce to set.

Notes

The sauce will thicken significantly as it cools. Make this up to a week in advance.
