Ingredients

Sandwiches
  • 8 bakery croissants sliced in half horizontally
  • 1 lb deli ham thinly sliced
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese or Gruyère
Poppy Seed Butter Glaze
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter melted (1 stick)
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp poppy seeds
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp onion powder

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Serrated knife
  • Small bowl
  • Whisk
  • Pastry brush
  • Aluminum foil

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Place the bottom halves of the sliced croissants evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  3. Layer the sliced ham evenly over the croissant bottoms, followed by the slices of Swiss cheese.
  4. Place the top halves of the croissants over the cheese to close the sandwiches.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Dijon mustard, poppy seeds, Worcestershire sauce, and onion powder.
  6. Use a pastry brush or spoon to generously coat the tops of the croissants with the butter mixture, letting excess drip down the sides.
  7. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is completely melted.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until the tops of the croissants are crispy and golden brown.
  9. Let rest for 3-5 minutes before serving hot.

Notes

Make Ahead: You can assemble the sandwiches and add the glaze up to 24 hours in advance. Cover tightly and refrigerate. Bake as directed, adding a few extra minutes to the covered baking time.
