- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar, maple syrup, and bourbon.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally until the sugar has completely dissolved.
- Add the blackberries (and cinnamon stick if using) to the pan. Stir gently to coat the berries in the syrup.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes. The berries should soften and release their juices, and the sauce should thicken slightly.
- Remove from heat. Discard the cinnamon stick. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Let cool slightly before serving warm over ice cream or pancakes. Alternatively, pour into a sterilized jar and refrigerate for up to 3 weeks.
Notes
Serve over vanilla ice cream, pancakes, or baked brie. Makes a great gift.
