Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with dark paper cupcake liners.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a separate large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating after each, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually alternate adding the dry flour mixture and the milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Fill the cupcake liners two-thirds full and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire rack.
- For the frosting: beat the softened butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar. Beat in the vanilla and enough heavy cream to reach a rich, pipeable consistency.
- Pipe deep-whorled swirls of frosting onto each cupcake. Position a small power pack at the base of each cupcake and use culinary tweezers to gently bury an LED strand within the frosting ridges, concealing the wire.
- Immediately dust each cupcake with fine iridescent edible glitter. Activate the LEDs and serve, instructing guests to remove the electronic components before consumption.
Notes
Always use verified food-safe and culinary-grade products for the LEDs and glitter. Handle LED strands gently to avoid compromising the coating. Crucially, explicitly instruct guests that the LED strands are decorative elements that must be removed before eating.
