Method
- Beat chilled mascarpone, heavy cream, sifted powdered sugar, and vanilla until thick and fluffy. Do not overmix (forms thick gooey mascarpone cream).
- Gently warm caramel sauce until pourable (thick gooey consistency). Stir in flaky sea salt if desired.
- Arrange half of the chocolate cake/brownie pieces (or ladyfingers) in a 9x13 dish. Drizzle with half of the cooled coffee/espresso.
- Spread half of the mascarpone cream over the chocolate base.
- Drizzle half of the warmed caramel sauce over the mascarpone cream.
- Repeat layers with remaining chocolate base, coffee, mascarpone cream, and caramel sauce.
- Cover tightly and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, or preferably overnight, for layers to set and flavors to meld.
- Just before serving, generously dust the top with unsweetened cocoa powder using a fine-mesh sieve. Slice and serve.
Notes
Use high-quality ingredients for best results. Chilling is essential for setting the layers and melding flavors. Dust with cocoa just before serving.
