- Beat softened butter, condensed milk, and peppermint extract until smooth.
- Gradually add sifted powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until a firm, pliable dough forms. Add a little milk if too dry.
- If coloring, divide dough and mix in gel food coloring.
- Press dough into lightly sugared candy molds or roll into small pieces and press with a fork dipped in powdered sugar.
- Place shaped mints on parchment paper. Air-dry at room temperature for 12-24 hours until a slight crust forms.
- Store dry mints in an airtight container at room temperature, layered with wax paper.
Notes
Sifting the powdered sugar is essential for a smooth texture. Do not cover the mints while they are air-drying.
