Oven Baked Beef Tacos

The ultimate family dinner hack. Crispy taco shells filled with juicy seasoned beef and melted cheese, baked to perfection and topped with fresh veggies.

Ingredients
  

Beef Filling
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning or 2 tbsp homemade
  • 0.5 cup tomato sauce or salsa
Assembly
  • 12 taco shells stand 'n stuff or crispy corn
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese shredded
Fresh Toppings
  • 2 cups iceberg lettuce shredded
  • 1 cup tomatoes diced
  • 0.5 cup red onion finely diced
  • 0.25 cup cilantro chopped

Equipment

  • 9x13 Baking Dish
  • Large skillet
  • Wooden spoon
  • Knife and Cutting Board

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  2. Sauté onion in a skillet until soft. Add ground beef and garlic; cook until browned. Drain fat.
  3. Stir in taco seasoning and tomato sauce. Simmer for 3-5 minutes until thickened.
  4. Arrange taco shells upright in the baking dish. Spoon beef mixture into shells.
  5. Top beef generously with shredded cheese.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbling.
  7. Remove from oven and immediately top with lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, and cilantro.

Notes

If using regular corn tortillas, lightly fry them in oil first to shape them, or use stand-up hard shells for easier prep.
