Ingredients

Pumpkin Piggy Ingredients
  • 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough 8 oz each, or similar sheet dough
  • 1 package standard-sized hot dogs 10-12 count
  • 1 large egg for egg wash
  • 1 tbsp water for egg wash
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning
  • 12 mini pretzel sticks for stems
Gooey Honey-Mustard Dipping Sauce
  • 0.5 cup mayonnaise full-fat for thick consistency
  • 0.25 cup Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 0.5 tsp apple cider vinegar optional
  • to taste salt and black pepper

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Small bowl
  • Pastry brush

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the dough and pinch seams (if any). Cut the dough into thin strips, approximately 1/4 inch wide and 6-8 inches long. You will need 2-3 strips per hot dog.
  3. Wrap 2-3 dough strips tightly around each hot dog diagonally, crisscrossing and leaving small spaces to create the pumpkin 'ribs.' Secure ends by pressing firmly.
  4. Whisk the egg and water for the egg wash. Brush over the wrapped dough and sprinkle generously with sesame seeds.
  5. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and puffed. Let cool on the pan for 5 minutes.
  6. Insert a mini pretzel stick into the top center of each for the stem.
  7. For the sauce: whisk all sauce ingredients until smooth and a thick, heavy viscous consistency is reached.
  8. Serve the Pumpkin Patch Pigs in a Blanket warm with the dipping sauce.

Notes

Use cocktail sausages and cut dough strips shorter for mini appetizer versions. For a spicy kick in the sauce, add a dash of hot sauce or sriracha.
