Ingredients

Pizza Base
  • 1 lb pizza dough store-bought or homemade
  • 1 tbsp olive oil for brushing
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
Toppings
  • 0.5 lb Italian sausage mild or hot, casings removed
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded, low-moisture
  • 0.5 cup ricotta cheese whole milk
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves only
Finishing
  • 2-3 tbsp hot honey store-bought or homemade
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes optional
  • 1 tbsp parsley chopped, for garnish

Equipment

  • Pizza stone or baking sheet
  • Skillet
  • Pizza cutter
  • Mixing bowls

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
  2. In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the sausage, breaking it into small crumbles, until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. On a floured surface, stretch the pizza dough into a 12-inch circle. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet or pizza peel.
  4. Brush the dough with olive oil and sprinkle with minced garlic.
  5. Spread the shredded mozzarella evenly over the dough.
  6. Distribute the cooked sausage crumbles over the cheese.
  7. Add teaspoon-sized dollops of ricotta cheese randomly across the pizza.
  8. Sprinkle with fresh thyme leaves.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and puffed, and the cheese is bubbly.
  10. Remove from oven and immediately drizzle with hot honey. Garnish with parsley and slice.
