Ingredients

Pizza Components
  • 1 ball pizza dough (16 oz) store-bought or homemade
  • 0.5 cup pizza sauce thick, gooey consistency
  • 2 cups shredded low-moisture mozzarella gooey melting cheese
  • 0.5 lb spicy Italian sausage removed from casings
  • 0.5 cup full-fat ricotta cheese thick, viscous, creamy
  • 2-3 tbsp hot honey thick, gooey drizzle
  • 1 tbsp cornmeal optional, for dusting

Equipment

  • Pizza stone or heavy baking sheet
  • Skillet
  • Parchment paper

Method

  1. Place pizza stone in oven and preheat to 500-550°F (260-290°C) for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Cook spicy sausage in a skillet over medium-high heat, crumbling, until browned (5-7 minutes). Drain excess fat.
  3. Stretch dough into a 12-14 inch imperfect circle on parchment paper dusted with cornmeal.
  4. Spread the thick, gooey pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border. Top with shredded mozzarella.
  5. Distribute the cooked sausage crumbles evenly. Add large, messy dollops of the thick, viscous ricotta cheese.
  6. Slide the pizza (on the parchment) onto the hot stone. Bake for 10-15 minutes until crust is golden and cheese is bubbly and unevenly browned.
  7. Remove from oven. Let cool 1 minute, then generously drizzle with the thick, gooey hot honey.
  8. Slice and serve immediately while the cheese is gooey.

Notes

For the best crust, ensure your oven is as hot as possible. Drizzle the hot honey *after* baking to preserve its flavor and texture.
