Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan generously or line with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
- In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the eggnog, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Gently fold with a spatula just until combined; do not overmix (a few lumps are okay).
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
- In a small bowl, mix the topping ingredients (sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg) and sprinkle evenly over the batter.
- Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. If the top browns too fast, tent loosely with foil for the last 15 minutes.
- Cool in the pan on a wire rack for 20 minutes, then remove from pan and cool completely on the rack before slicing.
Notes
For the best flavor, use freshly grated nutmeg. Store tightly wrapped at room temperature for up to 4 days.
