Method
- Mix ground beef with seasonings and form into 4 oval patties.
- Fry patties in a skillet over medium-high heat until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, sauté chopped onions in the beef fat until soft.
- Melt butter in the pan, then whisk in flour. Cook for 2 minutes to make a roux.
- Slowly whisk in beef broth, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce to prevent lumps.
- Simmer gravy until thick and viscous. Return patties to gravy to warm.
- Fry eggs in a separate pan, sunny-side up or over-easy.
- Assemble by placing rice on a plate, topping with a patty and egg, and smothering in gravy.
Notes
For best results, use 80/20 ground chuck to ensure the gravy has plenty of beef flavor. The gravy will thicken as it cools.
