Ingredients

Hot Cocoa Base
  • 2 cups whole milk or oat milk for dairy-free
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 0.75 cup white chocolate chips high quality
  • 1 orange large strips of peel only
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch sea salt
Toppings
  • 0.5 cup whipped cream sweetened
  • 1 tsp orange zest finely grated
  • 2 slices fresh orange for garnish
  • 0.25 tsp nutmeg optional

Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Vegetable peeler
  • Mugs

Method

  1. Using a vegetable peeler, remove wide strips of zest from the orange, avoiding the white pith.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine milk, heavy cream, and orange peels. Heat until steaming (do not boil).
  3. Reduce heat to low, cover, and let steep for 10-15 minutes to infuse the flavor.
  4. Remove and discard the orange peels using a slotted spoon.
  5. Add the white chocolate chips and salt to the hot milk. Whisk constantly until smooth and creamy.
  6. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Pour into mugs and top with a generous amount of whipped cream.
  8. Garnish with fresh orange slices, grated zest, and a pinch of nutmeg. Serve immediately.

Notes

For an adult version, add 1 oz of orange liqueur.
