Method
- Melt the unsalted butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Do not let the garlic brown.
- Sprinkle the flour over the butter and garlic. Whisk continuously for 1 minute to cook the flour and create a roux.
- Slowly pour in the milk, whisking constantly to prevent any lumps from forming.
- Increase the heat slightly to medium and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Continue whisking for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat. Whisk in the grated parmesan cheese, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper until the cheese is melted and smooth.
- Allow the sauce to cool for 5-10 minutes to thicken further before spreading it on your pizza dough.
Notes
Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat gently on the stove or microwave, adding a splash of milk if it becomes too thick.
