Ingredients

For the White Hot Chocolate
  • 2 cups milk whole milk recommended for richness
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips or chopped white chocolate bar
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch salt to balance sweetness
For Topping
  • Generous amount whipped cream freshly whipped is best
  • Optional white chocolate shavings or crushed candy canes

Equipment

  • Heavy-bottom saucepan
  • Whisk

Method

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a saucepan, combine the milk, white chocolate chips, and heavy cream.
  2. Heat Gently: Heat over medium-low heat, whisking constantly until the white chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is hot and steaming (do not boil). The mixture should be thick and viscous.
  3. Flavor: Remove from heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and the pinch of salt until fully combined. The liquid should be thick and gooey.
  4. Serve & Garnish: Pour into serving mugs. Top generously with whipped cream and a sprinkle of white chocolate shavings or crushed candy canes. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a less sweet drink, use a higher quality dark white chocolate. For an adult beverage, stir in a shot of peppermint schnapps or Irish cream at the end.
