Ingredients

Burger Components
  • 48 pieces Tater Tot Crowns or Coins Frozen, flat round tater tots
  • 1 lb Ground Beef 80/20 blend recommended
  • 1 tsp Kosher Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black Pepper Freshly ground
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic Powder Optional
  • 4 slices Cheddar or American Cheese Cut into 6 small squares per slice
Toppings & Assembly
  • 12 Cherry Tomatoes Sliced in half horizontally
  • 0.5 cup Iceberg Lettuce Torn into small squares
  • 4 Cornichons or Mini Pickles Thinly sliced
  • 0.25 cup Ketchup and Mayonnaise For dipping on the side

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Large skillet
  • Cocktail Toothpicks

Method

  1. Preheat your oven and bake the tater tot crowns on a parchment-lined baking sheet according to package directions until deeply golden and crispy. Let cool slightly.
  2. In a medium bowl, gently mix the ground beef with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Form into 24 very small, thin patties, slightly wider than the tater tots.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the mini patties in batches for 1.5 to 2 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
  4. Immediately after flipping the patties, place a small square of cheese on each to melt during the final minute of cooking.
  5. Assemble the burgers: Place one baked tater tot on the bottom, top with lettuce, the cheesy beef patty, a tomato slice, a pickle slice, and finish with a second tater tot on top.
  6. Secure the entire stack with a cocktail toothpick and serve immediately with ketchup and mayo for dipping.

Notes

If you cannot find tater tot crowns, use regular tater tots and gently smash them flat halfway through baking.
