Method
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced onions and green bell peppers. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened.
- Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until they have browned and released their moisture. Remove the vegetable mixture from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the ground beef over medium-high heat. Break it apart and cook until browned and no pink remains. Drain any excess fat.
- Reduce heat to medium. Stir in the minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Return the cooked peppers, onions, and mushrooms to the skillet with the beef. Stir well to combine and heat through.
- Smooth the mixture into an even layer in the skillet. Top evenly with slices of Provolone cheese.
- Cover the skillet with a lid and let it sit on low heat for 2-3 minutes, just until the cheese is completely melted and bubbly.
- Remove from heat, scoop into bowls, and serve immediately hot.
Notes
For a toasted cheese finish, use an oven-safe skillet and place it under the broiler for 1-2 minutes instead of using a lid to melt the cheese. This dish is excellent for meal prep and keeps in the fridge for up to 4 days.
